The Humminbird 383c Combo Fish Finder and GPS Chartplotter is an all-in-one fish finder for the recreational angler that offers incredible ease of use and GPS chartplotting. The 383c Combo provides full GPS navigation, chartplotting and sonar right out of the box. This unit has a built-in 16-channel WAAS GPS receiver, and a four nautical-mile resolution UniMap of USA inland lakes, rivers and coastal areas. The 383c Combo uses DualBeam PLUS sonar, selectable between 20- and 60-degree beams, or simultaneous operation to deliver both wide coverage and better bottom definition up to 1,000 feet with a target separation of only 2.5 inches. This fish finder includes real-time sonar at up to 40 times per second, and Sonar Echo Enhancement sensitive enough to track a jig to over 40 feet. This unit’s high-speed, micro-dynamic transducer is reliable up to 70 mph, and even includes water temperature and GPS speed.

The 383c Combo has a 3.5-inch, 256-color, sunlight viewable TFT LCD screen that sports 320 x 240 lines of resolution, and includes X-Press menus so you can access the most important controls with fewer button presses. This fish finder lets you select between TruArch for actual fish returns, and FishID+ with a selective target depth. This unit features a 2x, 4x, 6x and 8x zoom, fresh and saltwater set-up options for optimal performance in any environment, and an adjustable backlight for night fishing. With 750 waypoints, 20 routes, and 10 tracks with 2,000 points each, it is difficult to find a more complete system.

The 383c Combo comes as a Transom Mount with a tilt-and-swivel, quick-disconnect mount system, for either Gimbal or in-dash mounting. This unit measures 5.25 x 7.4 x 4 inches (WxHxD) as a Gimbal mount, or when in-dash mounted requires three inches of behind-dash clearance. I bought this fishfinder/GPS thinking it would be a great combination, only to find the advertised map of “North America” did very little for us in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Map shows a total of about 4 lakes in an area containing 1,000’s of lakes. Upon contacting Hummingbird they said they could not help me. I offered to send back the unused Fishfinder /no map GPS and pay the difference to move up to a model where you can then spend more money and get maps with better detail. hummingbird has been no help in doing this. No loss to them, more dollars in sales, but no deal. Customer service and satisfaction??????????????

Customer Review: Worked great on my Garmin 60csx
My wife and I backpacked for 29 days in China at the end of 2008. This map pack was invaluable for confirming that we were going in the right direction. Because of the language, it’s very easy to get going in the wrong direction in China so I always checked the GPS to verify where we were and what direction we were heading. I also used the maps to find a place to stay in Xi’an since it has a bunch of food, hotels, etc on the maps. The maps are less detailed in the rural areas, as would be expected. If you travel in China and you aren’t fluent in the language, you’ll want to take advantage of any opportunity or tool to double and triple check where you’re going. It’s not so easy that you can just ask anyone for directions… practically no one speaks English in China, and if they do, they are probably to shy to talk to you. My wife and I almost ended up on a train to Chengdu instead of Zenshou because they sound similar… and that was a misunderstanding between two Chinese people, not between me and a Chinese. The language is so complex, they don’t even understand each other sometimes! The GPS is adds peace of mind. I’m not sure why the NUVIs are having such problems but these maps worked flawlessly on my 60csx handheld. My unit is 100% up to date with the software updates on the Garmin website. Be advised that the Chinese government isn’t keen on foreigners carrying GPS devices but if you just don’t go waiving it around everywhere like a freak, you’ll probably be fine, I didn’t have any issues. As a point of reference, tourists aren’t supposed to even bring tourists books with maps into China.
Customer Review: Out of date
This map product is not only out of date on what roads and expressways exist, but there exists a shift from real location. If tracking on a long stretch of road, it can be seen clearly because the track created by the GPS unit runs off to one side by a 100 meters or more. Makes it tough to navigate in a city.

When using two AA alkaline batteries, you’ll get up to 20 hours of battery life from the unit. The unit’s barometric altimeter system features automatic pressure trend recording while providing current elevation, ascent/descent rate, minimum/maximum elevation, total ascent and descent, and average and maximum ascent and descent rate. Meanwhile, the electronic compass allows you to get accurate headings while standing still.

Another key feature of the 60CSx is the 10,000 point automatic track log; 20 saved tracks (500 points each) let you retrace your path in both directions. There’s also a large-numbers option for easy viewing, as well as a dual-position display mode.

The 60CSx’s trip computer provides odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, max speed, and more. Meanwhile, a fast processor allows the 60CSx to provide quick auto-routing, turn-by-turn directions, and audio alerts when you use the optional MapSource software, which can be stored on the unit’s included 64 MB microSD card. Downloading information is quick with the USB or serial port interfaces. Using the dedicated serial port, the 60Cx can share navigation instructions with repeaters, plotters, and autopilots. The four-position rocker pad and dedicated high-use buttons make navigating through the unit’s features easy, even when your fingers are cold or wet.

Finally, the GPSMap 60CSx is packed with some extra fun features. An integrated outdoor calendar provides ideal hunting and fishing times, plus moon rise/set/location information. Customer Review: Great Improvement
I guess there is nothing else I can say but, “great improvement”. I upgraded from a Garmin eTrex Legend after beating it up for about 3 years - by the way, withough a glitch. The on/off button can be a bit trying on the finger (a little too close to the antenna and hard to push down), but so far that is about the only thing I can complain about. I love that the buttons are now on the front of the receiver. I have not had a chance to really give it a workout, but I hope the quad helix antenna and sirf star chip live up to their claims.

The eTrex Legend C packs advanced GPS navigation into a compact, waterproof device.

The unit offers a bright, transflective color TFT display for easy daylight viewing, automatic route generation, off-route recalculation, turn-by-turn directions with alert tones, and icon-driven menus for finding points of interest (when combined with Garmin’s optional MapSource CDs). Customer Review: Be Aware
I bought the e-trex Legend C and have only used it for driving to and from different locations in my work truck. I work at new neighborhoods alot and our “street guide” people provide directions to new streets but only for a while. After that you have to use a map if you don’t update your software. Garmin stated that they are not providing updates any longer for the Legend C. So if you buy anything, buy the Legend CX or something else. I have City Select but I understood it to include any software.
Customer Review: Great little work horse!
I have owned the legend c for about 4 or five years and it has been a awesome little work horse. I have used it to kayak rivers and bays to a 5 day hike on the Appalachian trail to finding my way around a new city. It has performed very well in those situations. I would definitely not reccomend using this for routing out a long trip, I tried this when I first purchased it and lets just say it was a painful experience! However it can be a great tool for figuring out where things are in a car and for figuring out your arrival time it is spot on. There are cons: The little joy stick can be very sluggish and the pressor speed is very sluggish, together it can get annoying waiting for things to load when trying to scroll around looking for something. At times it has trouble getting a decent signal while inside the car or driving under a thick canopy of trees, although this is probably true of most hand helds. My biggest gripe would be the the black rubber surround that seperated from the unit after leaving it the sun a little too long. The glue heated up and now the rubber just slides around and won’t stay put. I have heard that you can fix this by cleaning the parts with alchohol and then using clear silicone caulk to reattach it but haven’t tried it yet. After five years of frequent use its still going strong and I have to say all-in-all this is a great little device.

A “must have” if you own a Magellan Maestro. It gives you the capability to enter addresses and do set up procedures in your home instead of in your car connected to the cigarette lighter/adapter. The internal battery of the Magellan has much to be desired. You need to use a power source to adequately program info.
Customer Review: PRICE/VALUE CANNOT BE BEAT: TIME & GAS SAVER
Having used this GPS for over two weeks, one week in the highway chaos and wilderness of northern New Jersey, I concluded that for the price, this GPS is nearly miraculous. It must have saved enough gas for me to pay for this thing! Every time I made an error in NJ (and there were LOTS of them), this GPS provided immediate corrections, found alternate routes, and safely spared me from losing time and fuel. Don’t leave home without it.
